  • We'll look at the cost for workers and the impact on the wider economy.

  • And it's usually a time for world leaders to come together to discuss the climate.

  • But this year's COP summit is missing some major players.

  • So there are some signs of relief for US government workers who haven't been paid during the shutdown.

  • Over the weekend,

  • senators took the first step towards ending the longest federal shutdown in US history,

  • with eight Democrats voting to advance a plan to reopen government.

  • And now the White House has signalled its support for the bipartisan deal.

  • Earlier, I spoke to William.

  • He's a firefighter in Washington state

  • because I wanted to understand what this shutdown has meant for him and his family.
