26 分钟A trade ceasefire hangs in the balance.
Welcome to World Business Report from the BBC World Service.
I'm Sam Fennick,
President Trump says the world is watching as he meets China's Xi Jinping in South Korea,
a meeting that will decide whether the current ceasefire holds or
if the two countries slide back into a tariff war.
Also today, borrowing costs have come down in the US,
but will it be enough to give job seekers and businesses a lift?
So the much anticipated meeting between Donald Trump and China's President Xi Jinping is taking place in South Korea on Thursday.
It's a summit with high stakes.
The two leaders are deciding whether to extend their truce in the trade war or to risk a return to tariffs that could rise above 100%.
Here's the US president sounding optimistic about a deal.
We're going to be, I hope, making a deal.
I think we're going to have a deal.
I think it'll be a good deal for both.
And that's really a great result.
You know, that's better than fighting and going through all sorts of problems.
Both sides are signaling some concessions.
China may delay its new rare earth export controls,
and Washington is considering easing a tariff link to chemicals used in fentanyl production.
