Hello, welcome to News Hour from the BBC World Service.
My name's Paul Henley.
The programme's coming to you live from London.
The Argentinian president Javier Millay has hailed his party's decisive win in Sunday's midterm elections as a turning point for the country.
He's promised to forge ahead with his agenda of shrinking the state and deregulating the economy.
His party, la libertad avanza, rebounded from a series of setbacks to win over 40% of the vote.
Mr Millay predicted the most reformist congress in Argentinian history.
President Trump, whose administration granted a big aid package,
to Argentina congratulated Mr. Millay, whom he said had had a lot of help.
Mr. Trump was speaking to reporters on board Air Force One on his way to Japan.
That was a big win in Argentina.
I want to congratulate the victor and he was a big victor and he had a lot of help from us.
He had a lot of help.
I gave him an endorsement,
a very strong endorsement and it was really unexpected to have a victory of that.
Some people thought it would be hard to win and not only did he win, he went by a lot.
Well, I've been speaking to a supporter of President Millet in Parliament in Buenos Aires.
Diana Fernández Molero is an MP for the Republican Proposal Party,
which is closely allied to Millet's LLA.
This was more than an election.
