I'm Georgina Godwin.
My guest today is the Asia editor of The Times and The Sunday Times,
a long time foreign correspondent covering Japan and Asia for over 30 years.
After graduating from Oxford,
his interest in the Far East was sparked by a trip to Japan in 1986 that he won on a television quiz show.
He's now based in Tokyo.
He's the author of several works of nonfiction,
including Time of Madness and People Who Eat Darkness,
The Fate of Lucy Blackman and Ghosts of the Sonami,
a moving account of the 2011 earthquake which caused powerful tsunami waves on the coast of northeast Japan.
He's now written his first novel in The Green Heart.
Richard Lloyd-Perry, welcome to Meet the Writers.
It's a great pleasure to be here, Georgina, thanks for having me.
Of course, you are not a stranger to Monocle at all because your wife is Fiona Wilson,
who is our Tokyo bureau chief and our senior Asia editor.
Yes, I think you can call me a friend of Monocle.
We live together in Tokyo.
hop-skipping a jump from the monocle office and monocle shop in Tokyo.
So, monocle intudes quite a lot on your life, I imagine.
