Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for greater participation of women in national and social governance,
saying this would ensure that gender equality is truly internalized within society.
The Chinese leader made a remark at the opening ceremony of the Global Leaders' Meeting on Women in Beijing.
Xi Jinping said that China has led its 690 million women in marching together into a moderately prosperous society.
He has also announced that China will donate an additional $10 million to UN women over the next five years.
He said China will support 1,000 livelihood projects for women and girls as the priority beneficiaries and invite 5,000 women to China for exchange and training programs.
This year's meeting focuses on new and accelerated efforts for women's development.
