Hello,
we're recording this episode of Newscast at just before six o'clock on Thursday evening and we've just had this statement from the Prime Minister after he chaired a meeting in the government's Cobra Emergency Committee following the attack on a synagogue in Manchester on Thursday morning.
And while this is not a new hate, this is something Jews have always been.
We must be clear.
It is a hatred that is rising once again and Britain must defeat it once again.
On behalf of the nation, I want to offer my condolences to the families and victims affected.
We'll discuss what we know so far about the attack at the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue,
which has been described as a terrorist incident by the police on this episode of Newscast.
Hello,
it's Adam in the Newscast Studio and later on I'll be joined in the studio by the new leader of the Greens.
Zach Polanski, because he's on his way to the Green Party conference this weekend.
But first of all,
let's talk about that attack on a synagogue in Manchester on Thursday morning when a car rammed into the building.
and there was then a stabbing attack.
Two people died in that attack,
and the suspect was then very quickly shot dead by armed police officers.
On Thursday afternoon, counter-terror police officers in London,
because they are in overall charge of counter-terrorism policing in the UK,
described the attack as a terrorist incident.
Our colleague Danny Savage is at the police cordon and has been there all day and joins us now on Newscast.
