It's nearly 18 hours
since it started and already the first furlough notices have been sent out to federal workers,
telling them to stay at home.
It's the first such closure of the US government in nearly seven years.
The US Congressional Budget Office, which is non-partisan,
says up to 750,000 federal employees could be furloughed and the cost of compensating them could run to $400 million a day.
