Today, the Home Secretary has told Labour conference that migrants will have to prove they are contributing to society to earn the right to remain in the UK. Under the proposals, legal migrants will have to learn English to a high standard, have a clean criminal record and volunteer in their community to be granted permanent settlement status. Meanwhile, earlier in the day the chancellor Rachel Reeves warned of harder choices to come when it comes to economic choices. Adam, Alex and Chris explain the significance of both speeches. Plus, Adam is joined by chief secretary to the Prime Minister Darren Jones. He discusses the inner workings of Downing Street, when patriotism becomes racism and the tough choices ahead. • Have you had any Labour Party themed cocktails yet?

  • I had a cocktail last night but I think it might have been a mocktail

  • because I'm trying to keep it in check during this conference.

  • It's curious that you didn't check until after you drunk it.

  • I got the vibe it was a mocktail, but who knows?

  • So I was on my walk back to go to bed last night at about 11 o'clock at night and got chatting to various folk,

  • including a guy who had a me a stick of rock.

  • Which is tremendous, and I must admit, I ate the lot before I got back to my room.

  • That's quite a political thing,

  • because I once went to a factory where Boris Johnson was making Brexit-themed rock,

  • so it's clearly a thing.

  • And they always say, don't they, like, oh, fairness runs through me, like...

  • Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

  • That's cool, and a stick of rock.

  • I didn't check what the wording through it was, actually.

  • It was dark and Bea was hungry.

  • So I just ate it.

  • A terrible thing to eat just for a bet.

  • Anyway,

  • the reason I asked you about the cocktails is lots of people have been posting pictures of this cocktail menu at an event last night where they had Labour Party themed cocktails.
