  • Hello, it's me, Lauren Laverne, and this is Desert Island Discs Postcards,

  • your hand-picked selection of unforgettable moments from some of our favourite castaways.

  • This postcard comes from the novelist Jilly Cooper,

  • the author of Rivals, which was adapted to TV last year.

  • Back in 2016, Jilly told Kirsty Young her theory on what makes a successful marriage.

  • Well, luck being married to a very nice man.

  • Also, I've said it.

  • creaking bed springs.

  • And I've said the bed springs are creaking because of hysterical laughter.

  • And we did laugh about an awful lot of things together, which was lovely.

  • I remember the Daily Mail ringing up and saying, what does Gillie wear in bed?

  • And Leo said, dogs mostly.

  • And then, I don't know, this is probably for a family program.

  • And he said, and if I reach over in the night for something furry, I get bitten.

  • Sorry.

  • It's all right.

  • And is it true that Leo never read your books?

  • No, he did.

  • He read Prudence once when he had flu and said it made him feel worse.

  • I think he did.
