I'm gonna touch on some familiar themes here that relate to language learning but again that apply to so many other activities in life and in particular sports.
So I've said before I'm not a very good golfer and I think some of the things that I encourage people to do when it comes to language learning I'm guilty of not doing myself when it comes to golf.
I often say you know language learning is a matter of your attitude.
I say you have to be active, but you have to have a positive attitude,
an attitude of confidence in yourself, trusting the process, enjoying what you're doing.
That attitude is so important.
Now, I don't do those things in golf.
I am active because my wife likes to golf, so I go golfing with her.
I don't have confidence in my swing, I don't trust myself, and therefore I'm not a very good golfer.
So, all of that is a lead up to... last Saturday, I think it was.
My wife and I were golfing at the Seymour Golf and Country Club here in North Vancouver.
That's the two of us, and so a young man shows up, he says he's going to play with us.
And it turns out that he has come to our course to participate in what's known as a mid-amateur golf tournament,
the Canadian Mid-Amateur Golf Tournament.
And his name is Drew Jones, and he's from Manitoba, from Brandon, Manitoba.
So of course, we're delighted to be able to play with someone of that caliber.
And he just hits the ball.
We can't even follow where the ball is going.
It's unbelievable.
