Hello, I'm Alshamahi and this is The Conversation from the BBC World Service,
the programme that amplifies women's voices,
which is just a fancy way of saying that we find two women from different countries who have a shared expertise,
bring them together and see what happens.
Today,
what's it like to travel the world in charge of dozens of world-class musicians and their instruments?
We're joined by two women running orchestras.
Urshoya Erdodi is the Managing Director of the Budapest Festival Orchestra in Hungary and Sarah Bardwell is the Managing Director of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in the UK.
And as it's the BBC prom season, they're both here with me in the studio.
Orshi and Sarah, welcome to The Conversation.
Hi.
Hi. Ladies,
I imagine managing an orchestra when on tour is no easy task with so many different people,
different personalities.
It's a bit like herding cats.
Fair?
I don't know if that is fair, actually.
I think when you're on tour,
that is the sort of the wonderful moment when everyone really comes together and they really become a team.
