I'm producer Mia Sorrenti.
In today's episode,
Pulitzer Prize winner Tim Weiner joins us to discuss the gripping history of the CIA in the 21st century.
Reaching from 9-11 through the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq to today's battle with Russia and China,
Weiner reveals how the agency fought to rebuild the espionage powers it lost during the war on terror and finally succeeded in penetrating the Kremlin.
In conversation with Carl Miller,
Weiner draws on unprecedented interviews with six former CIA directors, 13 station chiefs,
and scores of top spies who served undercover for decades and have never spoken to journalists before.
Let's join the conversation now with Carl Miller.
All right, well, hello, everyone,
and very welcome to this Intelligence Squared episode with me, Carl Miller.
I'm delighted to introduce our guest today, Tim Weiner.
Tim has, well, he's won the Pulitzer Prize, amongst other things,
and he's the author of Legacy of Ashes, The History of the CIA, which won the National Book Award.
He's the author of a number of other books as well,
and now also The Mission, The CIA in the 21st Century.
Tim, extremely warm welcome to you.
Thank you.
So, Tim, the CIA is obviously a very storied institution.
