单集简介 ...

Yaron Lischinsky, 30, and Sarah Milgrim, 26, were staffers at the Israeli Embassy. They had just planned a trip for Sarah to meet Yaron’s parents. He had recently bought an engagement ring. Then on Wednesday night, they were murdered outside the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C. The suspect, 31-year-old Elias Rodriguez, told police: “I did it for Palestine. I did it for Gaza.” Since its founding, The Free Press has reported on the rise of this kind of radicalism and a culture that has embraced violence as a means of expression, that has lost hold of the difference between life and death. Today, Bari reflects on the climate we now find ourselves in—and the deafening silence from mainstream media and pop culture. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

单集文稿 ...

  • From the Free Press, this is Honestly, and I'm Barry Weiss.

  • On Wednesday night, outside of the Capitol Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C.,

  • a gunman opened fire and murdered two young people because he thought they were Jews,

  • because they were gathered in a Jewish place,

  • and because they were there for an event hosted by a Jewish organization.

  • This is devastating news

  • as we're learning that two Israeli embassy staff members who were a couple were shot and killed

  • while leaving an event at a museum.

  • Before I tell you about their alleged killer and the culture of lies that created the climate for his rampage,

  • I want to tell you about the two people that he cut down.

  • And I want to do that

  • because I promise you that there will be no campaigns or hashtags or celebrity videos urging all of us to say their names.

  • Yaron Lashinsky and Sarah Milgram.

  • Those are their names.

  • They met at work, they were staffers at the Israeli embassy, and they fell in love.

  • Yaron, who was 30 years old, had purchased an engagement ring for Sarah,

  • who was 26, just a few days ago.

  • They were meant to fly to Israel this coming Sunday so that she could meet his parents,

  • who live in Jerusalem, before he proposed.

  • Yaron was born in Israel to a Jewish father and a Christian mother.
