This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese people's war of resistance against Japanese aggression and the end of the Second World War.
While the history of the European and American theaters of World War II is generally well understood,
the Asian theater receives much less attention.
Few people know, for example,
that China was the first nation to fight against fascist forces as early as in 1931,
eight years before Nazi Germany invaded Poland.
Again, people... know the extent of Germany's rampage in Europe,
but few understand how far Japan's imperial reach actually went and the crimes committed in this part of the world.
Why is there such an apparent black hole in people's collective consciousness?
