In the hopeful chaos after the fall of the Soviet Union,
a new generation of Russian journalists emerged, curious,
principled and determined to hold power to account.
Among them were two young reporters who began digging into the dark,
secretive world of the Kremlin's security services.
Their investigations grew into Agentura.ru,
a pioneering independent website exposing the FSB and the rise of surveillance in modern Russia.
Together, they've written a string of acclaimed books,
including The New Nobility, The Red Web and The Compatriots,
astonishingly all published in Russia at the time,
even as they pulled back the curtain on Putin's consolidation of power.
That window has since slammed shut.
Now, living in exile in London,
their latest book is their most personal yet, Our Dear Friends in Moscow,
tells the story of a generation divided by politics,
of trust broken, truth manipulated and friendships lost.
Andrei Soldatov and Irina Borogin, welcome to Meet the Writers.
Thank you.
