I'm Head of Programming, Conor Boyle.
Today we're joined by security expert and author Mark Gagliotti to discuss whether President Trump can bring about a peace deal in Ukraine.
We discuss how Trump's strategy is different to previous US administrations,
what Putin really wants from a deal,
and whether security guarantees from Europe and the United States can really quell Russia's imperial ambitions.
Gagliotti's latest book is Homo Criminalis, How Crime Organises the World,
and is available now at your local bookshop.
Now, without further ado, let's go to the episode.
Hi Mark, thanks so much for coming on today.
Oh, good to be here.
Well...
We've seen a lot of political theatre in recent days, you know,
the Trump-Putin Alaska summit,
Zelensky wearing a suit to the White House, this time alongside EU leaders.
But beyond the political theatre, in your view, has anything really changed?
I mean, I think it has.
I'm not yet at the point of saying that I'm at all necessarily optimistic that there will be peace.
But I do think it's fair to say that we're probably closer to the prospect of that happening than at any point
since the invasion in February 2022.
