Hello and welcome to NewsHour from the BBC World Service.
Coming to you live from London, I'm Rajini Vaidyanathan.
On Friday, President Trump hosted President Putin in Alaska.
On Monday, President Zelensky was at the White House along with European leaders.
Securing peace in Ukraine has been a bit of a personal mission for the US President,
filled with meeting after meeting.
But so far, little progress.
But after Monday's talks,
Donald Trump's hopeful he can get the Russian and Ukrainian leaders around a table so he can get their troops off the battlefield.
Well, in the last hour, the US president's spoken to the American news programme Fox & Friends.
He said he'd spoken to President Putin directly after that meeting with Mr Zelensky and European leaders.
It was late.
It was like one o'clock in the morning, but he picked it up very happily.
Sure, he works very hard, like we all do.
And we had a very good call.
And I told him that we're going to set up a meeting with President Zelensky and you and he will meet.
And then after that meeting, if everything works out, OK, I'll meet and we'll wrap it up.
But, you know, it takes, in this case, two to tango.
They have to have somewhat of a relationship.
Otherwise, we're just wasting a lot of time.
