Hi, it's Eve here.
Welcome to Radio Headspace.
I wanted to spend some time today talking about how mindfulness can support our use of technology.
I'm pretty sure I'm not alone when I say that my use of technology has really increased over the past couple of years,
as we've spent so much more time in front of our screens.
And I don't think I realize how much it impacted me until I couldn't find my phone the other day.
And it really made me panic.
It wasn't just the inconvenience factor of potentially losing my phone.
I realized I've been developing a pretty unhealthy relationship with it.
Living away from my family, I think, also plays a role.
I feel like if I don't have my phone,
I might miss something from them or not be available if there is news.
This really stems from when my dad passed away very suddenly.
So whilst there are some valid reasons for feeling like I need my phone close,
I still needed to address my reaction to it because it wasn't that healthy.
With so much technology around us,
it's really easy to forget that ultimately we get to define our relationship with it.
And my intention in talking about this topic today is not to scare us into getting rid of our phones and computers.
That would not be helpful at all.
But instead to look at ways to use it more mindfully.
