  • Hi, it's Eve here.

  • Welcome to Radio Headspace.

  • I wanted to spend some time today talking about how mindfulness can support our use of technology.

  • I'm pretty sure I'm not alone when I say that my use of technology has really increased over the past couple of years,

  • as we've spent so much more time in front of our screens.

  • And I don't think I realize how much it impacted me until I couldn't find my phone the other day.

  • And it really made me panic.

  • It wasn't just the inconvenience factor of potentially losing my phone.

  • I realized I've been developing a pretty unhealthy relationship with it.

  • Living away from my family, I think, also plays a role.

  • I feel like if I don't have my phone,

  • I might miss something from them or not be available if there is news.

  • This really stems from when my dad passed away very suddenly.

  • So whilst there are some valid reasons for feeling like I need my phone close,

  • I still needed to address my reaction to it because it wasn't that healthy.

  • With so much technology around us,

  • it's really easy to forget that ultimately we get to define our relationship with it.

  • And my intention in talking about this topic today is not to scare us into getting rid of our phones and computers.

  • That would not be helpful at all.

  • But instead to look at ways to use it more mindfully.
