Hello and welcome to NewsHour Live from the BBC World Service in London.
I'm Rebecca Kesby.
On the programme today,
Italy plans the world's longest suspension bridge to connect the island of Sicily with the mainland.
I think it's going to be very attractive.
It's going to have three lanes on either side for traffic going to and coming from Sicily and then it's going to have a railway in between those lanes in the middle.
It's going to look really good.
And in Rwanda,
new research shows that female gorillas form relationships that are basically just like human friendships.
all that to come but we begin the programme with this question.
Is President Trump going to get the Russian ceasefire in Ukraine he wants by the deadline he set this Friday?
The clock is ticking and the eyes of the world are watching.
Mr Trump reduced his 50-day deadline to just 10 days last month after he said he didn't think Russia was serious about ending the war.
His envoy Steve Witkoff had a three-hour meeting in Moscow with President Putin today which Mr Trump said on social media had made great progress.
President Trump is threatening more sanctions on Russia
if he doesn't get the deal he wants and secondary sanctions on third party countries,
specifically those who buy Russian oil.
And today, Mr Trump signed an executive order to slap an additional 25% on US tariffs for India,
which has increased its imports of Russian oil in the past three years.
And we'll have the details on that in a moment.
