Hello. Welcome to BBC World Book Club,
where you get to talk about their books with the world's most interesting authors.
I'm your host, Harriet Gilbert.
And joining us today is Korean born novelist Joo Hae Kim,
here to answer questions from around the world about her best selling debut,
Beasts of a Little Land,
a gripping epic of love and war set over five decades of Korea's turbulent history.
Joohye, thank you very much for joining us on World Book Club.
Thank you for having me, Harriet.
And my guess is that you've been quite busy recently promoting your most recent novel,
City of Night Birds.
Yes, that's correct.
I just came back from a tour in Seoul and Uzbekistan.
Hey, but in Uzbekistan I was mostly talking about my first book, Beasts of a Little Land,
which has been translated into Russian, which is mainly spoken in that part of the world still.
So it's.
Every day is something new.
Every.
Well, that's the book we're going to be talking about today,
Beasts of a Little Land, which was a sensation when it was published and for good reason.
