Chinese President Xi Jinping has urged efforts to safeguard lives and property from floods and geological disasters caused by days of heavy rains.
He's ordered search and rescue efforts for those missing or trapped and the relocation of residents in flood prone areas.
President Xi has also urged authorities to plan for worst case scenarios and allocate rescuers and supplies based on sound assessments.
Premier Li Chang has urged national flood control authorities to strengthen the local government's response.
He's called for vigilance in monitoring rivers and reservoirs and identifying urban areas prone to flooding.
