单集简介 ...

A US military veteran who worked for the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation has told the BBC he's never seen such brutality as that shown by Israeli soldiers and American contractors against starving civilians. And Israel's ambassador to France tells Newshour a French decision to recognise a Palestinian state will damage international relations. We'll also hear from the Palestinian ambassador to the UN. Also on the programme: some of Donald Trump's supporters, in Florida, answer questions about the president's links to Jeffrey Epstein; and a study of vast amounts of data showing strong links between air pollution and dementia. • This BBC podcast is supported by ads outside the UK.

  • The latest accusations of brutality to be made against Israeli troops in Gaza come from a former US Special Forces colonel who was hired by the American Israeli backed group distributing food in the strip.

  • He's told the BBC he's never witnessed such behaviour against civilians and that he'd resigned having witnessed desperate crowds being attacked with mortar rounds and tank fire.

  • More about that in a moment.

  • Meanwhile,

  • in the face of growing international outrage at the evidence of widespread malnutrition in Gaza,

  • Israel said it will allow Jordan and the United Arab Emirates to resume airdropping some humanitarian supplies shortly.

  • On News Hour yesterday we heard from a photographer whose picture of an emaciated child being held by his mother had been seen by millions around the world.

  • Today we spoke to the mother of that 18 month old boy.

  • My son Mohammed is suffering from malnutrition because of famine and lack of food.

  • Today he weighs six kilograms.

  • He wasn't like that before.

  • He weighed nine kilograms and used to eat and drink normally.

  • But because there's lack of food and the situation we're in, he's become malnourished.

  • He's suffering from severe malnutrition.

  • As you can see, he's developed a curved back.

  • He's got a protrusion in his back.

  • He's having physiotherapy now.

  • and is able to sit down and stand up like a normal child.

  • But he suffers from fatigue and cannot do so for long because of the hunger and lack of food.
