The World Health Organisation's chief, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has demanded full access for aid into Gaza as well as a ceasefire, describing the situation there as "man-made mass starvation". We speak to a doctor in Gaza City and to a spokesperson for the Israeli prime minister's office. Also in the programme: the International Court of Justice clears the way for countries to sue each other over climate change; and what's behind the rise in bars dedicated to women's sport? • Hello and welcome to News Hour from the BBC World Service.

  • We are coming to you live from London.

  • I'm Krupa Bhatti and it's very good to have you with us.

  • We begin this hour in Gaza, where the images of malnourished children and babies are haunting.

  • Over 100 international aid organisations and human rights groups have warned of mass starvation in the territory and are pressing for governments to take action.

  • Israel, which controls the entry of all supplies into the territory,

  • rejected this statement and accused the organisations of serving the propaganda of Hamas.

  • The head of the World Health Organization,

  • Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, spoke today about the conditions inside Gaza.

  • The large proportion of our population of Gaza is starving.

  • I don't know what you would call it other than mass starvation.

  • And it's man-made.

  • And that's very clear.

  • And this is because of blockade.

  • And then of course there is opening now.

  • But it's not enough.

  • It's just a trickle.

  • And people are starving.

  • Imagine 1026 people have died while trying to feed themselves.

  • If they are not starving, imagine risking their lives.
