  • Anyway, I'm Tony Travers,

  • Associate Dean of the School of Public Policy and Professor in the Department of Government,

  • and I'm really here to chair this evening's event.

  • We're going to hear about his new book, Can We Be Great Again?

  • Why a Dangerous World Needs Britain, from Sir Jeremy Hunt.

  • And I'll just very briefly introduce him.

  • Then what we'll do,

  • the pattern for the evening will be So Jeremy will give a speech

  • if you want to wander around and talk to the audience and talk about the book and then he'll come and rejoin me over here.

  • I'll ask one or two questions but then there'll be plenty of time for anybody in the audience to try and get through as many questions

  • as we can.

  • So, just very briefly to warm it up,

  • Sir Jeremy grew up in Surrey and had a successful business career before turning to politics.

  • And in a world, I can say this, where it's often said that people go straight into politics,

  • nothing wrong with that,

  • it is interesting that there are still people who have careers before politics and then go into politics.
