Hello.
The government today announced that at the next general election,
16 and 17-year-olds will be eligible to vote,
which means at the next election, people who are watching Newsround now will be able to vote.
So I've decided to break the news in the style of Newsround,
which as you know very well, I worked on for many, many years.
Right, here is how adults choose the next government of the UK.
Every few years they go into a room and in secret use a pencil to mark an X next to the name of the person they want to vote for.
Now, each of those people will be a member of a different political party,
and each political party has got different opinions on the big issues in the country.
That is what a general election is.
The big news today is that the government has announced that 16 and 17-year-olds will also be able to do this,
starting at the next election,
which we reckon is going to be in 2029, which means that if you're 12 or 13 now,
you will probably be helping to pick The next government.
And now it's time for Neighbours.
And you know what?
I'm still wearing exactly the same clothes I would have worn
if I'd been delivering that news on Newsround.
Some things never change.
