received a phone call from the White House saying the president was ready at short notice for a phone interview.
It came at the end of a hugely significant day for American foreign policy.

President Trump had announced a deal to send more US weapons to Ukraine and given a warning to Vladimir Putin that unless a ceasefire in Ukraine was agreed within 50 days,
