very unhappy with Russia's President Putin and promising massive supplies of American weapons to Ukraine.
billions of dollars, as well as Patriot missile defence systems and ammunition,
President Trump also set a new 50-day deadline for a ceasefire deal.
The deadline came with a stark warning to agree to a deal or he'll impose tough new tariffs on countries that buy oil or gas from Russia.
To help us look behind the headlines and the shift in tone from Mr Trump,
we're joined by Sean Bell, who was an Air Vice Marshal in the RAF and is now a military analyst.
Sean, what impact could these promised weapons have, do you think, on Ukraine's fight back?
It's been a fascinating 24 hours, hasn't it?
I think for me, the danger is we get sort of focused on the numbers and the weapons.
I think what's the most important thing is that ever since President Trump came into office,
he's been looking to sort of blame Zelensky, blame the West.
for the war and he's trying to be doing some sort of deal with President Putin,
olive branches, lots of bon ami going on.
Whereas actually what's happened now,
it does appear that President Trump's finally realized that President Putin is not
for turning and actually all of a sudden now he seems to be roundly supporting President Zelensky.
So I do think That is the key issue here.
Unfortunately, as a military guy, I've never had any faith in purely using sanctions to stop Putin.
Putin will only stop.
