Headspace Studio Hi friends, it's Rosie here.
Welcome to Radio Headspace.
So the other day I was having a conversation, like I often do, about mindfulness and meditation.
And this person said something that stuck with me.
They told me that while They really liked the idea of mindfulness, the mindset, the philosophy.
They felt that real growth only happens during formal meditation,
sitting still, eyes closed, breath by breath.
That's where the real work happens, right?
But over the years, especially after going on a silent retreat in India,
that belief got completely flipped on its head.
That retreat wasn't glamorous.
It wasn't Instagrammable, but every moment was steeped in presence,
not just the time we spent sitting cross-legged in silence.
We were asked to treat everything as part of the practice,
walking, brushing our teeth, eating, cleaning.
And let me just share that washing your metal plate in silence
while surrounded by dozens of strangers who are also trying to be present is humbling.
and deeply transformative.
That experience taught me something I still come back to every single day.
Mindfulness doesn't start when the meditation app opens, and it doesn't end when the timer goes off.
