  • Welcome to Radio Headspace.

  • So the other day I was having a conversation, like I often do, about mindfulness and meditation.

  • And this person said something that stuck with me.

  • They told me that while They really liked the idea of mindfulness, the mindset, the philosophy.

  • They felt that real growth only happens during formal meditation,

  • sitting still, eyes closed, breath by breath.

  • That's where the real work happens, right?

  • But over the years, especially after going on a silent retreat in India,

  • that belief got completely flipped on its head.

  • That retreat wasn't glamorous.

  • It wasn't Instagrammable, but every moment was steeped in presence,

  • not just the time we spent sitting cross-legged in silence.

  • We were asked to treat everything as part of the practice,

  • walking, brushing our teeth, eating, cleaning.

  • And let me just share that washing your metal plate in silence

  • while surrounded by dozens of strangers who are also trying to be present is humbling.

  • and deeply transformative.

  • That experience taught me something I still come back to every single day.

  • Mindfulness doesn't start when the meditation app opens, and it doesn't end when the timer goes off.
