Hello and welcome to News Hour from the BBC World Service.
I'm Celia Hatton and I'm coming to you live from London.
We bring you this edition of News Hour just as many in Ukraine,
Europe and the US are asking the same question.
Is Donald Trump finally fed up with Russia's Vladimir Putin and will he weigh in on Ukraine's side to tip the balance of the war there in Kiev's favour?
Mr. Trump is expected to make a major statement,
perhaps involving new sanctions for Russia or new weapons for Ukraine.
You'd be forgiven for feeling a bit confused over the president's stance on this conflict.
Only a week ago,
he refused to confirm a plan to supply Patriot missiles to Ukraine when asked by reporters.
I know they made the request.
We're going to have to take a look at it.
It's very expensive, very expensive system.
It's a shame that We have to spend so much money on a war that would have never happened
if I were president.
But then, yesterday, the president stunned the world by his U-turn on the issue.
I haven't agreed on the number yet, but they're going to have some because they do need protection.
But the European Union is paying for it.
We're not paying anything for it.
But we will send it.
