  • So today we are reading a story called Watercress.

  • It was written by Andrea Wang and the pictures are by Jason Chen.

  • And it's read today by mommy and...

  • Mommy.

  • And a little dance rhythm.

  • I like it.

  • Do you know that when people first came to this country, your ancestors, many years,

  • many years ago, the pilgrims, they did not go to the grocery store for their food.

  • Do you want to know why?

  • because there were no grocery stores.

  • They had to learn how to do something called forage.

  • They had to forage for their food, which means they had to go out into the wide,

  • wide world and know what things were edible.

  • We read a book not long ago, Berry Song,

  • about knowing which berries you can eat and what kind of berries there were in different parts of the forest and that's important information to know what is edible and what is not.

  • We are in an old Pontiac.

  • The red paint faded by years of glinting Ohio sun, pelting rain and biting snow.
