Welcome to the LSE Events Podcast by the London School of Economics and Political Science.
Get ready to hear from some of the most influential international figures in the social sciences.
Hello everyone and welcome to the London School of Economics.
My name is Silvana Tenreiro.
I'm a professor of economics, and I'm delighted to welcome Professor Alan Taylor,
who will give his lecture today on the natural rate of interest.
Alan is professor at Columbia University's School of International and Policy Affairs and an external member of the Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee.
As you know,
Alan is a super prolific scholar with influential papers spanning many fields from international economics,
macroeconomics, finance, and economic history.
Born in Wakefield, Alan studied mathematics at King's College,
Cambridge, before graduating with a PhD in economics from Harvard University.
Alan has also been a consultant or visitor at many public sector organizations, including the IMF,
the World Bank, the BIS, several national central banks, and regional federal reserve banks.
He worked as a senior advisor at Morgan Stanley and at PIMCO,
and as a consultant for various asset managers.
So as it is quite evident,
he has a lot to bring to the discussion of the natural interest rates and monetary policy.
Now, before giving the floor to Alan, I'll turn to housekeeping.
