47 分钟The Economist.
I'm John and this is Checks and Balance from The Economist.
Today, something completely different, as the Monty Python sketches used to begin.
Welcome to The Checks and Balance Film Club where we're going to discuss what we think makes a great American movie.
And for this episode, I'm joined by Charlotte Howard, who's in New York.
James Bennett, who I think is also in New York, and Idris, who's in Washington D.C.
All three of them have picked a movie.
Idris, in classic style, has picked two movies that were both extremely long.
It's easy to spot the podcast member of the team who doesn't have young children.
We're going to be discussing those, and we're going to take them in chronological order.
And thank you to everyone who sent in their suggestions for a great American movie.
We'll get to those at the end.
Before we get there, guys, how are you doing?
Charlotte, what's going on your end?
I'm doing really well.
I have to say that I had seen excerpts from, but not the full Godfathers,
so Idris finally gave me a reason to watch them both, for which I'm grateful.
They were good.
There's a reason people like them.
Well, save it, we'll get into that.
