Search and rescue efforts continue in central Texas, where since Friday,
flash flooding has left more than 50 people dead.
Survivors of the disaster say the dramatic rise of the Guadalupe River came as a surprise.
Scott Walden of Kerrville, Texas,
says he and his wife are literally swept away about 200 feet in fast-moving water,
barely making it out alive.
So I grabbed my wife.
And we literally jumped in the water, and it swept us down to about 200 feet down that way.
And there was a crepe myrtle tree that we grabbed hold of, and we waited for rescue.
Most of the victims are from Kerr County, where children's summer camps are popular.
Currently, 15 of the known dead are children.
More than two dozen children attending a girls' summer camp are missing.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott requested a federal disaster declaration from President Trump.
The administration supports the request.
Abbott is asking for what he's calling immediate and ongoing assistance from the federal government.
