Live from NPR News in Washington, on Corva Coleman,
the House of Representatives spent all night haggling over the multi-trillion-dollar tax cut and spending bill.
It's backed by President Trump.
The bill narrowly passed a procedural vote a few hours ago,
and now it's moving toward the final vote in the chamber.
That's expected soon.
NPR's Claudia Grisales says a handful of Republicans had blocked the bill's advancement toward a final vote.
But GOP leaders got them to change their minds.
We're still learning the specifics of what Republican leaders agreed to in order to sway them to yes.
But what we do know is that for hours,
more than half a dozen of them withheld their votes and at least four at times it went to five were nos.
Some of these holdouts wanted material changes to the bill.
But Republican leaders said it's too late in the process.
So it's possible promises on future bills were made.
We'll have to wait and see.
But they were also facing immense pressure from President Trump,
who late into the night was posting on social media, pressuring them to get on board.
And Pierre's Claudia Grisales reporting, again, a final vote is expected shortly.
The Justice Department has announced charges against a California man who was accused of belonging to a transnational terrorist group.
And Pierre's Ryan Lucas has details.
