Welcome to the documentary from the BBC World Service.
at the heart of global storytelling with BBC journalists from all around the world.
I'm your host Farinek Amidi.
Earlier this month, Poland elected a new president.
Karol Nawrodzki is a right-wing historian who only recently rose to prominence in Poland's political scene.
Who is he,
and what does his election tell us about the role Poland will play in the region?
Katarina Chynkolova is the editor of the newly launched BBC News Polska.
And she's here in the studio with me, Katarina.
Welcome to the fifth floor.
It's great to have you.
Thank you for having me.
So can you tell me more about this new president of Poland?
Who is he and what does he believe in?
I think the best way to describe him,
or probably the way he would describe himself, is that he believes in Poland.
So he is a historian.
He led, until recently, the Polish National Institute of Memory.
For Poland, history is a very big thing.
