22 分钟Welcome to The Inquiry. I'm Charmaine Kosia.
Each week, one question, four expert witnesses and an answer.
June 2025, Istanbul, Turkey.
Just hours after bombs hit three nuclear sites in Iran,
the country's foreign minister, Abbas Arachi, holds a media conference.
He responds to those US airstrikes.
and the escalation of Iran's latest conflict with Israel.
They crossed a very big red line by attacking nuclear facilities.
He also takes questions on how Iran might strike back.
The Strait of Hormuz is a shipping route
for moving crude oil from major Middle East producers to the rest of the world.
One reporter asked if Iran is considering closing it.
Abbas Arachi replies.
There are a variety of options available to us.
The decision to close it rests with the country's Supreme National Security Council,
after final approval from the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
So this week we're asking, how crucial is the Strait of Hormuz to global oil supplies?
This programme was recorded on the 25th of June.
So the Strait of Hormuz,
this is a very important and probably one of the most important and used waterways in the world.
