There's a viral video that came out like 12 years ago now that still makes my day every time it shows up on my feed.
Her granddaughter is picking up her grandma from her house and blasting the song,
Run Around Sue, from her car.
We see the grandma open the front door and dance her way down the porch steps.
Not just for a few seconds, but for the entire song.
Completely unfazed by neighbors or anyone else watching,
she bops along with her full chest in absolutely zero rush to get into the car.
It makes me smile ear to ear every time because of how beautifully freeing it must truly be to not care about being judged by others.
One of the greatest gifts of aging is the emotional freedom to express ourselves authentically without concern for how others may perceive us.
This reminds me of the Taoist story called The Empty Boat.
One misty morning, a fisherman was quietly rowing his boat on a river.
Suddenly, another boat crashed into him.
Angry, he shouted, demanding to know who was responsible.
But when he looked closely, he saw the other boat was empty, drifting aimlessly.
Instantly, his anger disappeared.
There was no one to blame and no judgment to pass.
The fisherman smiled,
feeling free from irritation and judgment
