  • An overnight curfew has been in force and police say they made mass arrests.

  • The governor of California, Gavin Newsom,

  • said democracy is under assault before our eyes after the White House deployed nearly 5,000 troops,

  • including National Guardsmen and U.S.

  • Marines, to his state against his wishes.

  • And the anger's been spreading too with demonstrations in support of immigrant communities in New York City,

  • Chicago and Dallas.

  • The governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, who's a Republican,

  • has announced he's deploying the National Guard at several locations in his state.
