单集简介 ...

Bringing soldiers back home is one of the few areas where Russia and Ukraine have made progress together in recent months, and another large scale prisoner swap started this week. We talk to Anastasia - the wife of a Ukrainian soldier held captive since 2022, and released in May. But his new found freedom came against a backdrop of continuing Russian attacks on cities across Ukraine. We talk about whether we are seeing the retaliation for operation 'Spider Web'. Today’s episode is presented by Victoria Derbyshire and James Waterhouse. It was made by Arsenii Sokolov, and Polly Hope. The technical producer was Hannah Montgomery. The series producer was Chris Flynn. Email Ukrainecast@bbc.co.uk with your questions and comments. • BBC Sounds. Music, radio, podcasts.

  • Hello.

  • It's 1,203 days since Russia began its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

  • That is so emotional to watch.

  • That is a young Ukrainian soldier calling his mum.

  • Minutes after being released from Russian captivity,

  • he was returned home as part of another big prisoner of war exchange on Monday.

  • When you watch this video, he can barely breathe.

  • He's sort of out of breath as he's going, hello, mum, hi, mum, hi, mum.

  • It's so upsetting and also uplifting at the same time.

  • I'm just looking at a picture of him now.

  • He looks really pale.

  • His head is shaved.

  • He looks like he hasn't eaten fruit for... a very long time,

  • but the smile on his face as the phone is handed to him and he realises it's his mum.

  • And this video was released by Ukraine's Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights.

  • And these swaps are a real positive thing, aren't they?

  • These moments of relief, Victoria, are the only good thing,

  • the only area of cooperation coming out of these continued peace,

  • talks, these ceasefire efforts.
