Hello and welcome to NewsHour live from the BBC World Service in London.
I'm Rebecca Kesby.
Who could have predicted that the so-called bromance between the tech billionaire Elon Musk and the US President Donald Trump would end badly?
Well, frankly, just about every Washington commentator did predict a fallout,
but one so bitter, so public, and so potentially damaging to each side,
the rapid descent into ferocious insults and threats delivered via social media has had the world gripped and the US network struggling to keep up with the latest,
as the president blasts Musk that he's lost his mind and Elon Musk demanding Donald Trump is impeached.
Happy Friday to you.
We begin with that feud between Elon Musk and President Trump exploding and the consequences could be significant.
Yeah, it all started with Trump's budget bill.
Quickly grew to include the results of the election,
Musk's government contracts, even the Jeffrey Epstein files.
It is getting ugly and personal.
16 social posts in all.
15 of them in a four-hour period.
The president said Musk had gone crazy and threatened to cancel his lucrative government contracts.
Musk wrote,
such in gratitude and claim that Trump could not have won the presidency without him.
Well tensions have been simmering for a while with Elon Musk taking against Donald Trump's signature big beautiful bill that amongst other things promises huge tax breaks but Mr. Musk claims it will plunge the US into crippling debt.
He's called the bill a disgusting abomination and the explosive verbal brawl to rival even the best soap opera Lovers Tiff began from there.
