So in this city dispatch, we're going to stay clear of the ancient citadel,
and look at the forces that created modern Athens,
a city born not in classical times, but in the past century.
It's seen riots, coups, and yes,
some democracy, even the biggest economic recession in modern history.
Yet what defines this city is something more ineffable.
