This morning,
South Korea's constitutional court upheld the impeachment of President Yoon Suk-yul and removed him from office.
The acting chief justice said Yoon had breached the constitution by declaring martial law last December.
Crowds outside the court were jubilant.
But some of Yoon's supporters reacted by sobbing openly.
Yoon's shocking attempt amounted to a coup that left the country rudderless.
Today's decision finally brings to an end the immediate political saga,
but not to the deeper divisions inside South Korea.
The court's decision today is a huge victory for South Korea's democratic institutions,
first and foremost, under pretty brutal assault.
