  • This is The Guardian.

  • Today, how Elon Musk got his own city.

  • Intelligent presence accompanies every mile.

  • Let your Afila One drive or take the wheel yourself.

  • Immerse yourself in cinematic visuals and 360 spatial sound.

  • When you move with Afila One, the journey is a wonderful destination.

  • Afila One.

  • Wonderbound.

  • So the Starbase Industrial Complex sits at the edge of Texas Highway 4,

  • which is this kind of flat, open,

  • beautiful country highway that goes basically out onto the Gulf of Mexico or Gulf of America,

  • depending on which side of the political divide you sit on.

  • Oliver Lachland is Guardian US's southern bureau chief,

  • and he recently took a journey to a site from where man,

  • one man in particular, hopes to explore a new frontier.

  • And it's surrounded by ranch lands, by wetlands.

  • You see, you know, huge flocks of birds flying across the highway.

  • And then almost kind of out of nowhere, these vast structures just appear on the horizon.

  • Some of them are the Starbase facility itself,

  • which is a kind of hulking mass warehouse production site.
