That's definitely the nature of markets.
For regular listeners, the voice of Gary Gensler will be a familiar one.
Surely at The Economist, you'd appreciate that.
The former chair of the Securities and Exchange Commission,
America's most powerful financial markets regulator, has twice been a guest on this show.
And he certainly didn't shy away from expressing his views.
Ripple was a security...
With all respect, that's not only still in court,

As SEC chair under Joe Biden, not only was he opinionated, he was also unusually active.
He issued new disclosure rules on climate risk and cybersecurity.
He sought to overhaul the U.S.
Treasury market clearing system.
And he launched multiple prosecutions,

Tens of billions of dollars have been lost to fraud,
hucksters, people with deep conflicts.
All of which made Gensler rather unpopular in certain quarters.
