Hello and welcome to NewsHour from the BBC World Service.
We're coming to you live from London.
I'm Paul Henley.
Another incident involving multiple deaths in Gaza has prompted condemnation by the United Nations.
The UN Secretary General called for an independent investigation after at least 31 Palestinians were killed near an official aid distribution centre.
More than one international medical charity said the patients they'd treated had been shot at from all sides by the Israeli military.
The IDF disputes that.
Merlin Thomas is part of our BBC Verify team.
The picture is very unclear at this point and that is really worth emphasising.
So you're hearing claims and counterclaims swirling around this incident in Rafah or near the distribution centre there.
Remember there are four distribution centres in Gaza which have been recently set up and that only started last week and it's part of the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation and they have taken over distributing aid and there's already been very chaotic scenes we saw last week.
This kind of adds... of that picture,
we've seen videos that they've shared with us of CCTV footage from this one distribution centre.
And in one part, you can see people rushing and running away.
And in one part of the video, you can see what appears to be tracer fire.
Now, that is an illumination of rounds of gunfire.
It's something that comes kind of one in every five rounds.
And so we saw that coming.
And so we've gone to military experts and we're also speaking to audio analysis experts to kind of look at this audio,
look at this video and see if they can tell us any more about this.
