  • This is The Guardian.

  • This afternoon, an update on the horrendous incident in Liverpool on Monday.

  • Everything had been building up to this event for a long time,

  • not just because of Liverpool being denied having a Premier League title parade in 2020 due to the pandemic,

  • but I think obviously they knew they were going to win the league for a long time and most of the hotels in Liverpool were booked up from February,

  • March for this weekend because people just wanted to be part of this parade.

  • The last time this happened, I was like 10.

  • So it's great to bring my little lad out today.

  • He's 11, so it's just how long I've waited for this.

  • It's amazing to share it with him.

  • It was just unbelievable scenes.

  • Absolutely packed.

  • The whole sky filled with red smoke and the flares.

  • We've been waiting for this for years.

  • So the weather's rubbish, but the atmosphere's brilliant.

  • It was just a special day.

  • Until 6pm.

  • A few minutes past six, as fans started to make their way home,

  • police say that a Ford Galaxy People carrier followed an ambulance that was making its way towards a fan who was suffering a suspected heart attack.

  • What happened next remains unclear, but graphic videos soon started to appear on social media,
