Hello and welcome to NewsHour from the BBC World Service.
Coming to you live from London, I'm Paul Henley.
Donald Trump seems to be getting into the habit of ambushing VIP guests in the Oval Office of the White House.
Volodymyr Zelensky famously had to fend off the anger of the American president live on camera.
Today, it was the turn of the South African president, Cyril Ramaphosa.
He's in Washington to try to reset a tricky relationship between the two countries.
Their meeting followed Washington's unfounded and discredited claims of genocide against white Afrikaners,
and it was that...
What does it take for you to be convinced that there's no white genocide in South Africa?
Well, I can answer that for the president.
I'd rather have him answer.
I'd rather answer that.
Our president will respond to you.
Thank you, Mr. President.
It will take President Trump listening to the voices of South Africans,
some of whom are his good friends, like those who are here.
When we have talks between us on a quiet table, It will take President Trump to listen to them.
I'm not going to be repeating what I've been saying.
I would say if there was Afrikaner farmer genocide,
I can bet you these three gentlemen would not be here, including my Minister of Agriculture.
