The fourth ministerial meeting of the China Community of Latin American and Caribbean States Forum has just taken place in Beijing.
Speaking at the opening of the event,
Chinese President Xi Jinping urged countries to stand together to promote global peace and stability in the face of unilateralism and protectionism.
He called for expanded cooperation in emerging areas including clean energy,
5G, digital economy and artificial intelligence.
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva,
Chilean President Gabriel Warwick and Colombian President Gustavo Petro were among those in attendance.
Meanwhile, Colombia has formally agreed to join the Belt and Road Initiative.
What is driving the closer ties between China and the Latin America and Caribbean nations?
