Hello and welcome to the English Like a Native podcast.
My name is Anna and you're listening to week 18, day 4 of Your English 5 a Day, the second season.
I have made it my mission to do my best to encourage you to daily dip into the English language.
Yes, I want to help you to build a habit.
of regularly indulging in English in some way.
And you can do that easily by listening to this podcast series,
released every day of the working week from Monday to Friday,
with some bonus episodes coming out over the weekend too.
So let's begin today's episode with a snapshot.
After years of living in the noisy city,
Moira moved to a rural village surrounded by fields and forests.
The contrast was striking.
Gone were the traffic and crowds, replaced by tranquillity and open skies.
Her small cottage became a sanctuary where she could enjoy peaceful solitude and reconnect with herself.
Right, let's get into that vocabulary, starting with the noun contrast.
A contrast.
We spell this C-O-N-T-R-A-S-T.
A contrast is a clear difference between two or more things.
In the snapshot, there was a contrast between life in the city and life in the countryside.
One being very busy and chaotic and the other being quiet and tranquil.
