In the mountains of Lesotho, a young girl walks through the fields,
buck in one hand, staff in the other.
In front of her are a few dozen sheep that she gently guides towards their next grazing spot.
To passers-by, this may be an odd sight.
Normally, only boys herd sheep.
But for the young girl, this is giving her the chance to get something she's determined to have.
An education.
An education?
that will see her become one of Africa's most eminent scientists.
And while she's shepherding on the grassy hills,
she's learning the lessons that will help her fulfil that dream.
You know, it's science, believe it or not, it's science.
If you... understand your environment, you're actually doing science without realising it.
And also it made me feel I can do anything a boy can do even better.
I'm Julia Ravey.
And I'm Ella Hubber.
We're scientists turned radio presenters.
And these are the stories we wish we'd known when we were starting out as scientists ourselves.
